Audition Information & FAQs

AUDITIONS:
Tuesday, April 17th:  3:30 - 6:00
Wednesday, April 18th:  6:00 - 9:00

Each act must sign up for auditions in advance.  All audition time slots will be available to sign up for beginning Tuesday, April 10th.  All acts must sign up for a specific audition time slot on the Audition Time Slot sign-up sheet that will be located on the auditorium door from April 10th - April 16th.  All acts must sign up for a time slot on the theater door.  **If you are a 7th or 8th grader and also auditioning for an Celebrity Guest Star, please put a star next to your name on the Audition Form (please see below).

WHAT DO I NEED TO AUDITION:
  • 3 minute or less polished and show-ready act showcasing your talent (no exceptions)
  • Please come wearing your costume/attire for the variety show to auditions (If you are also auditioning for a Celebrity Guest Star, please wear your "Celebrity Look Alike" costume to the audition and bring your other costume to show Miss Cindy)
  • Please bring all props needed for auditions (A piano & cd player will be available for use)
  • Your act must be show-ready at the time of auditions
  •  If your act requires music, you must bring a cd with your name/group written on the cd for me to keep.  Your music must be edited and ready to perform.  The cd that you provide to me AT AUDITIONS must have your final edited track that you plan on using at the performances.  Please note, you will not get this cd back.
  • One audition form filled out PER GROUP with attached picture of group members and attached sheet of lyrics being performed (if performing a song).  Audition Form will be posted online by Tuesday, April 10th.  Please bring this form to your audition.
  • Parent/Guardian Signature agreeing to the following:
    •  ONE PARENT/GUARDIAN must be available to volunteer during one of the three shows
    •  student/cast member will attend all rehearsals when called during the week before the talent show (Saturday - Wednesday).
PLEASE NOTE:  I will be choosing the TOP 30 acts to perform at the variety show.

**Due to time constraints and current circumstances, Miss Cindy is hand-picking the tech crew for the variety show.  If additional help is needed, it will be posted on the blog.  Please stay tuned for more information.  If you would like to be a part of the variety show, please audition -- I would love to have you!!  If you are only interested in working backstage, I would encourage you to audition for tech crew in the fall for the play.  WMS is always looking for dedicated and responsible crew leaders.

FAQs:
You are responsible for editing your own music.  If you feel like a the lyrics are not appropriate, you will need to substitute in proper lyrics (and include this with your Audition Form).  If you want to perform a re-mix of various songs, you are responsible for providing that music already edited at the time of your audition.
Please show your responsibility in choosing an appropriate act to perform.  Please remember that not only will you be performing in front of Miss Cindy, you will be performing in front your parents and teachers.  Please keep this in mind when choosing an appropriate and family-friendly act.
Your act DOES NOT have to perfectly match the theme of the variety show.  I am looking for acts that have their talent prepared and ready to be showcased; however, if you go the extra mile and try to mirror the announced theme throughout your act, it will only help you, as I am choosing the top 30 acts to perform.  Please read the section below entitled "My Vision" under the theme blog post.

LOOKING FOR 7th & 8th GRADERS:
If you are a 7th or 8th grader who would like to show up at your audition dressed as a celebrity look alike from the 80s, I am looking for 7th and 8th graders who would be willing to emcee throughout the show.  Please come prepared with a 30 second monologue/conversation as the celebrity you are dressed as.  Please note that the monologue needs to be from the point of view from the celebrity you are dressed as, not yourself.

NEED SOME SUGGESTIONS?:
-If you are "Doc Brown" from Back to the Future, you might want to talk about your time machine, aka your awesome car the DeLorean.
-If you'd like to showcase your sense of fashion, try dressing with lace and capris plus a skirt as Madonna or Cyndi Lauper and talk about all of your Billboard hits.
-Talk about a tough day at school or how your siblings drive you crazy as Kirk Cameron from the Growing Pains
-Strut your stuff and attempt a Moon Walk as Michael Jackson
-Talk about your rad video game as Mario & Luigi, the Super Mario Brothers
-Talk about your crazy inventions as Inspector Gadget
-Describe your day as a "Valley Girl" who loves to shop and use lingo like "rad" or "awesome" or "totally"

Please show up at your regular scheduled audition time - you will have 30 seconds to perform your monologue BEFORE your regular audition. I am looking for several 7th and 8th graders who would be willing to do this.  Please be creative and HAVE FUN!!

REHEARSALS:
Please keep in mind that we will have rehearsals to piece things together for the variety show (entrances, exits, etc).  The rehearsal schedule will be finalized after the show is cast, but please keep the two weeks before the talent show open and pay attention to the proposed dates mentioned on the blog.

HAVE FUN!!

Miss Cindy
